1. Log a police complaint without fail. this is to ensure that your mobile needs to be traced and more importantly that the mobile is not misused in case it has gone into wrong hands
2.Call up the service provider and inform that she has lost the mobile
JVC has said, what I wanted to say!

Hey J, ( adding to jvc's info)
Last year I lost my 6100 mobile (stolen)
1. Logged a police complaint and got a FIR Copy saying that It was stolen (not missed)
2. Blocked services of SIM from the Service Provider and got the receipt.
3. Had (NOKIA)Insurance Card and Original Bills
4. Sent all the Docs to National Insurance-Delhi for compensation.
5. Got 6610 within 15 days.
Still the sad part is, I lost many contact informations.
:-(
I'm not sure if still Nokia is offering ( theft ) insurance...
Police complaint ivaalandi.. Especially these days when God knows what is happening..
IMEI number nu oru matter keedhu
GSM phones la *#06# adicha varum.
its a 15 digit unique identification number. adhai therinchu vechukongo.
at least u can render the phone useless for the thief by blocking the number.
Read Excerpts
"You can also block the usage of the stolen mobile handset by preventing the re-programming of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. IMEI is a unique 15-digit code used to identify an individual GSM mobile telephone to a mobile network. It can be displayed on most phones by dialing *#06#. The code is also printed on the compliance plate under the battery.
IMEI numbers of cellular phones connected to a GSM network are stored in a database (EIR - Equipment Identity Register) containing all valid mobile phone equipment. Whenever a phone logs onto a particular network to make or receive calls, its IMEI number is emitted and gets registered. In case of stolen phones, the service provider can pass on the information to the police. They will further trace the user through the SIM card. Though blocking of SIM number is easier, blocking of handset can prevent reuse of handset by replacing the SIM card. "
orey oru doubt. i am not sure if the service provider does this by default or we need to enforce this with our initiative.
but edukkum inda IMEI matter therinchu vachukaradu nalladu

u r right. they said they cant do anything other than blocking the number.
thanks for the info, PK ! we have noted down the numbers in the battery after we bought. i think that would help us. will give a shot. thanksss :)
