We are looking for alliances for my sister. We get to know a lot of people, families in this process. Some are really good to know and we feel part of their family. A few dialogues that we came across:
* After exchanging the family details, photo, horoscope, phone calls, our Josiyar said that a guy's horoscope is not suitable. But payan veetla jaadhagam elaam nalla irukunu sonaangha. So, we arranged for a meet, and the guy was so weird in his activities (needs a separate post). 2/3 days naangha elaam yosichutu, my mom called the guy's father and told that we will not be able to take this further. That gentle man is a lawyer, so he was so commanding in the whole process.
He immediately shouted and said "evlo problems unghalalaa. payan photo kaekareengha, email id kaekereengha, torture paniteengha".
* Another pen paarkum padalam. Payan amma, appa, paati, chithi, chithappa, mama etc everyone came to see my sis. At the end, my mom asked them when it would be possible for us to meet the groom.
payan paati: oh unghaluku payana paakanumaaa?
my mom: ??!?!!
* Recent'a we got 3-4 profiles from a matrimony center. Amma dhaan oru list pottu, elaar details'um ezhuthi, fulla maintain panitu irukaangha. Once the horoscope matched, she called a groom's father, to ask for the guy's recent photo.
His father: "unghaluku idha munaadiyae en payan expectation solanum"
Amma (wondering): oh ponnu education/work expectation irukaangha?
Father: "ennana, avan daily'ae oru oru foreign country ku pora maathri velai irukum. Veedu kooda vaangitaan. So, avan status ku ponnu irukanumnu nenaikaraan."
Amma (still confused): oh apdineenghala
FAther: "adhaan oru Flat'um oru car'um ponuku koduthurungha"
Amma (manasula sirichutae): "apdeenghala..saringha, photo paathutu naan apram pesaren"
She marked a X mark for this guy in her list :-) (phone'la idha solrappa sema comedya irunthathu).
Ippadiyum inum makkal irukaangha. OMG!

aren't you glad that you did not go through all this...it is so stressful
..believe it or not...i hear so much stuff from guys side too...it is crazy these days in desi marriage market...everybody wants everything..nobody wants to compromise ...
I did go through all these. I knew A only for a month before the engagement. Before that we were going through the same process (Tamil Matrimony and other center/sites) for like 8-9 months.
I know! whatever you said is so true. It takes some time to realize that nobody is perfect :)

..btw do you know.. some parents ask for W2 along with horoscope...LOL!
ayayooo sutham :) antha alavuku naangha inum pola. photo, horoscope vaangarathukae engaluku podhum podhum aayiduthu...They get our stuff first, they visit us and if they like then they send us the guy's photo. apdiyae oun munaadi anupina, that will be an oldddd photo..Still people are following that 'payan veedu osathi' status. UNoHu solra maathri "rombbbaa mosam" (I like the way she says that :))

Neenga solraradhu sari dhaan J...i was lucky, ungala mathiri dhaan. i knew my hubby exactly one month before the marriage..our engagement was on the morning of the wedding day.
When my friend's parents had given her pic to a family the guy's sister dint like it coz she thot the gal was very conservative in the saree...hehehe yen friend'u andha foto'kaga dhaan saree kattinanradhu avungalukku theriyadhu!
Know wat i know a gal who rejected an alliance bcoz she wanted a mappillai who worked in the same technology as her...LOL idhai yellam enga poi solrathu :)
